Additionally, we support you in navigating the process, so you and your psychologist can focus on your well-being and treatment goals.

  • 1. Visit your GP

    To access the rebate you will need to obtain a Mental Health Treatment Plan (MHTP) and referral.

    During your appointment discuss you mental health concerns and your doctor can access your needs.

  • 2. Book an appointment

    With your MHTP & referral, you can then book an appointment with one of our Medicare Registered Psychologists.

  • 3. Receive your Medicare rebates

    Bring your referral & attend your appointment and you'll receive a portion of your session paid back into your back account within 2 business days.

Mental Health Treatment Plans (MHTP)

If you currently struggle with a mental dis-order such as anxiety, depression, greif and loss, OCD, and more. You could be eligible for a MHTP. This gives treatment plan gives patients access to up to 10 rebated sessions at a Medicare Registered Psychologist.

Chronic Disease Managment (CDM)

People who have a chronic disease can access up to 5 rebated allied health sessions per calendar year for management of a chronic disease. To access this Medicare plan, you must gain a CDM treatment plan from your GP.

Medicare states that psychological treatment under the Chronic Disease Management Scheme needs to be focused on the management of a chronic disease, not a psychological disorder unless your GP has made the clinical decision and confirms in writing that the psychological disorder qualifies as a chronic disease.

Eating Disorder Plan (EDP)

If you are living with a diagnosed eating disorder, you could be eligible for up to 40 rebated psychology sessions in a 12-month period. To access this Medicare plan, you must gain a EDP plan from your GP.

Does your practice bulk bill?

No, we do not bulk bill at Key to Life Psychology. Your session fees need to be paid in full and your Medicare rebate will then be refunded into your nominated bank account within 1-3 business days.

Do Mental Health Treatment Plans (MHTP) expire?

Technically, they do not expire. However, they do require revision to access up to 10 sessions per calendar year.

This is done by visiting your GP after 6 psychology sessions along with your therapist reporting back to your GP.

I have Private Health Insurance, can I claim both the Medicare and the Private Health Insurance on the same session?

No, unfortunately. Medicare states that you cannot claim Private Health Insurance on sessions claimed with Medicare.

If I have to cancel my appointment, can I claim Medicare on the cancellation fee?

Unfortunately, no. Medicare states you can only claim Medicare on sessions that have been conducted, therefore you will be liable for any fees due to late cancellation.
